That's My Story Giveaway

I was so excited to receive a tin of these sweet story cards in the mail. If you haven’t come across them yet, let me introduce you to That’s My Story cards.

thats my story set

The tin is about the size of your phone and contains a set of glossy story telling cards. Each card has a simple isolated image on a white background.

  • Red cards = character or object
  • Green cards = setting
  • Yellow cards = complication
  • Blue card = conclusion

Every good story contains these elements, from picture books through to novels. Kids who recognise the basic elements of a story and understand narrative structure usually do much better in formal literacy lessons once they start school.

You can check out the suggested game ideas on the website, but I would keep it simple. “Once upon a time there was a… (red card + green card). Suddenly… (yellow card). Oh no! But then…(happy ending).”

I think these open ended cards will get a good workout in our family: in the car, at coffee shops, at bedtime. They are also available as foam stickers for bath time story telling! They retail for $16.95 and would make excellent stocking stuffers, or Christmas gifts for little friends.

Thanks to Melissa from That’s My Story I have one set of cards to give away. To enter simply leave a comment below. Oh, and it’d be great if you pop over and like their facebook page too. (Entry is open to Australian residents only. One entry per person. Winner drawn at random Friday 6/12/13 8pm NSW time.)

  1. What a great idea they look totally awesome…. Good idea for mealtime conversation rather than the tv! Totally a great idea as a stocking stuffer;-)

  2. What a lovely idea – so portable! Could take these to places where you’ll be waiting with your kids to pass the time!

  3. Perfect purse size for those unexpected moments when kids need entertaining.
I love that they encourage kids to launch into an imaginative world that they can direct.

  4. My daughter would love these! And so would I – would help for the “Once upon a time” I have to come up with at bedtime every night :)

  5. These look like they would be perfect for using with the children I work with, and to give their families ideas for talking with their children.

  6. They look fantastic. We have a beginner reader and he is just learning to do story retells. I’ve been explaining the components of a story to him.

  7. My 7 year old daughter has set her sights on being an author – she would looooove this pack! What a fantastic idea!

  10. Haven’t seen these before. They look great. Would be perfect to use at home, in the classroom or on long trips in the car.

  11. I have a son who aspires to be an author just like Andy Griffiths. I think we would have a lot of fun with cards like that.
