Blessed by Blogging

Hello again! It’s been very good for me to take a break from blogging for the past few months. At first I felt guilty, then relieved. Only after that could I really think about what I want to do with this little patch of the online world.

I love being a blogger and I’m not ready to give it up yet. It has been a huge blessing in my life and I’ve had so many wonderful experiences and opportunities through blogging. That said, in order to create space for the “other” writing I do (children’s books – the reason I started blogging in the first place), I need to make a few changes.

Here are some things I will NOT do in 2013:

  • general PR posts
  • check stats
  • compare my blog
  • say “yes” without really thinking it through

Here are some things I WILL do in 2013:

  • post weekly (weekly-ish)
  • review new release picture books
  • submit more of my own manuscripts to publishers!
  • say “no” without feeling guilty

I’m not a big fan of New Year’s resolutions, but I do think a new year provides an opportunity to assess our lives and consider the direction we are heading. I’ve noticed a few other bloggers and friends have chosen a word for the year. One of my closest girlfriends has embraced the word nourish.

I think my word for this year will be blessed. My husband and kids are an incredible blessing. I’m blessed by friends, my job, our home, our church, the blogging community, and so much more. If you follow me on facebook, twitter or pinterest, I’ll be using the hashtag #blessed.

So what about you? Which word will you aspire to in 2013?

  1. Welcome back! My word is ‘live’. Ali Edwards (scrapbooker) does a One Little Word class – all about making your word more present in your life – it that’s what you want. I have never done the course but regularly reflecting upon my OLW last year made a big difference!!

Look forward to your picture book reviews. We need a bigger bookshelf!!

  2. Nice to see you back in blogland! It’s always good to have a little break, and what better time of the year to get back to it! My word seems to be “balance”, since it’s something I need for 2013. Good for you in getting focussed on what you really want to do, looking forward to those book reviews too :)

  3. I stopped checking my stats in March last year. I think it makes me a better writer if I focus on who I am writing for — my family — and not simply just try to drum up a list of followers. Frankly, I’m considering turning off my comments altogether, but … I do like to meet other wonderful people, and sometimes they stop by my blog and say hi!

  4. I just came across your site and loved reading the picture book reviews you’ve done on your blog! Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
