- a mother’s heart –
Becoming a mother changed my world! Doing life with kids is infinitely rewarding, but often challenging, and I am still learning what it means to be a great mum. I hope to raise two happy, healthy, resilient, independent little people, who love God and live accordingly.
I also seek to encourage other mums on their mothering journey. I am part of the National Management Team for MOPS Australia (Mothers Of Pre Schoolers), and as the National Media Manager it is my privilege to be the editor of Better Mum Magazine. [Please note, however, that the views expressed on this site are mine alone and have not been reviewed or approved by MOPS Australia.]
In Brisbane I was a regular radio guest on Brisbane’s 96Five, sharing thoughts about parenting with Liam, Robbie and Ness on The Family Show.
- a teacher’s mind -
Once a teacher, always a teacher. I am not in the classroom at the moment, but my educational background underpins much of my writing here on the blog and elsewhere. I have taught most grades in the Primary School, and adored my time as a Primary Teacher Librarian. I have also worked as a Project Officer for The Smith Family‘s excellent Let’s Read program.
In addition to my literacy specialisation, I have a particular interest in the natural world and enjoy teaching kids of all ages about Australian habitats and wildlife.
- a writer’s hand –
I have always been a children’s writer. Many people have “an idea for a book” but true writers have hundreds, usually on scraps of paper stuffed into notebooks, waiting to be crafted into a manuscript worthy of transcending the slush pile. True writers can’t help but write. I am that kind of writer.
I especially enjoy writing non-fiction picture books. In 2012 I placed 2nd in the CYA non-fiction picture book category with a story about finches. In 2013 I took out the entire category, placing 1st, 2nd AND 3rd. Now to find the right publisher. One day I hope to have my name on the CBCA’s nomination list for the Eve Pownall Award for Information Books.
In the meantime, I just keep writing…
