When we had kids, I was pretty sure our days of nice holidays were over – at least for the next ten years! I know some families enjoy luxury holidays where the kids are catered for in their own special program, but when we have time away I want us to be together as a family. So when the Hilton Hotel at Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast invited us* to trial their “Doing It For The Kids” family holiday package, I jumped at the chance to find out if family-friendly luxury breaks actually exist.
In case you don’t live in Brisbane’s northern suburbs, and in case you missed the pics on facebook and twitter… yes, my kids were on the front page of the local paper. I might be slightly biased but I think it’s a great photo. Not just because they’re both smiling and looking at the camera, but because they are swinging from a rope ladder in our backyard.
Miss 5 went to see the ballet today as a special treat with her Aunty. The plan was for Mr 3 and I to hang out at the Queensland Museum for the morning – but it is currently closed for renovations in preparation for the 150th Birthday Party in just over a week. (There will be cake. Two METRES of cake. You heard it here…)

During the Christmas break our little family enjoyed a week away at Coffs Harbour. The kids and I particularly enjoyed the time we spent on the beach together (while SquiggleDad was sleeping in!) We collected shells and pebbles, built sandcastles, explored the rocks, watched birds, and chased waves.
